NEWS Many of the UK's biggest companies are still failing to put together coherent strategies for using the Internet, according to research carried out on behalf of Energis. The research shows that almost 40 per cent of UK companies with an annual turnover of more than £500m have no Internet strategy. The figure rises to almost 50 per cent of all businesses turning over more than £1m per year. These are the initial findings of a survey carried out for the UK business telco by research company, The Survey Shop. Almost 600 senior managers and directors from all sectors of UK business were polled at the end of September. Firms in the London area were found to be the most Web-aware, with 66 per cent having Internet strategies. Companies in Yorkshire and Humberside were bottom of the list, at 34 per cent. Those companies that do have an Internet strategy cited customer service and internal and external communications as the main benefits. The full report, called the Energis Business Issues Poll, is due to be published next month.
