BT confident of discount plan approval

NEWS BT's latest discount scheme for businesses has come a step closer, as Oftel confirmed that the proposals appear to comply with Fair Trading rules. The proposed discounts would run on top of existing offers and could save companies that have an equal amount of inbound and outbound calls as much as 5 per cent off their total bill. A final decision has not yet been made, and Oftel is currently seeking the views of the industry. However, BT is confident that the proposals will be cleared at the end of November. A BT spokeswoman said: "We have been talking about this approach to pricing with other telcos and Oftel for over a year now, and are very pleased with Oftel's response so far." The UK telco expects more than 10,000 businesses will benefit from the Dual Discount rates, and hopes to offer the service from the beginning of next year.
