Deutsche Telekom joins long distance price war

NEWS Deutsche Telekom has reacted to an aggressive price war by cutting charges for long distance calls by up to 60 per cent. Although exact details are yet to be published, the German telco is also expected to simplify its tariff structure. Customers using ISDN are likely to be among the first to benefit from the cuts, providing they are given regulatory approval. At the beginning of September, Deutsche Telekom's rival o.tel.o unveiled price cuts for weekend and evening rates for long distance calls, whilst Viag Interkom, a joint venture between BT, Viag and Telenor of Norway, also announced cuts of up to a third.
