Infoseek puts faith in XML

NEWS Web portal company, Infoseek, is to release software which searches Web pages for XML (eXtensible Markup Language) tags. Version 3.0 of the company's Ultraseek Server software, to be launched next week, will have the facility to recognise XML labels in documents and Web pages stored on corporate servers and Web sites. XML labels are embedded in Web pages in the same way as HTML tags, and are used to describe the type of information contained by a page, from pictures and paragraphs to the document as a whole. The move is the first major commitment to XML by one of the top Web portal and search engine providers. The company claims the technology will eventually make navigating the Internet a much easier task.
