NEWS The UK government is funding a consortium of retail and technology companies to set up 3D scanners to provide accurate measurements for clothes. Under the Foresight Link programme, £3.4 m has been earmarked for the project. The Centre for 3D Electronic Shopping will be set up at University College London. The group of 20 companies are aiming to get the service up and running within 18 months. Customers go into a booth and infra-red light measures 100,000 points on the body. This is converted into an accurate picture which can be fitted with virtual clothes.
