Greek Web users take to the barricades

By Sally Watson, 14 January 1999 17:23

NEWS Web users in Greece are planning a one-day strike in protest against high Internet connection charges. Following the example of other European users, the Greek protestors hope to draw attention to what they describe as 'prohibitive' costs. Some protest groups are urging users in other areas of the world to email protest letters to the Greek Prime Minister. State controlled telco OTE has recently announced cheaper rates for users who connect to the Web through its Internet service provider (ISP) arm - OTEnet - a move that has sparked accusations of anti-competitive behaviour from rival ISPs.
