Olicom switches on to Ethernet

NEWS Token Ring (TR) vendor, Olicom has taken its first step to recognise Fast Ethernet. The Danish company has unveiled its Fast Ethernet Migration Suite to assist TR users who need to work with Ethernet. One of the first products is the Crossfire 8730 translation switch which consists of four 100Mbps Ethernet ports and 20 TR ports. The only way the two topologies can be connected is through Layer 3 switching, which has been described by Per Larsen, Olicom president, as expensive and very inefficient.
