NEWS Music seller, HMV and bookstore, Waterstones are the latest retailers to become free Internet service providers (ISPs), after signing partnerships with Yahoo! From 29 March, users will be able to access the services by collecting a free CD from the retailers' high-street outlets, or downloading software from their Web sites. They will initially run discount offers on CDs and books, and provide a link to Yahoo!'s UK portal. As with other free ISPs - such as Dixons' Freeserve - connection will cost the same as a local phone call. However, telephone support calls will set users back 50p per minute. The two companies hope the move will drive more customers to their online stores. Books and CDs - along with computers - are the most popular items bought over the Internet. The launch coincides with Yahoo's rebranding of its own BT-powered free ISP service, Yahoo! Click. The revamped service will be called Yahoo! Online.
