Ex-Demon fires up the Net

NEWS Demon Internet founder, Cliff Stanford has promised to "change the shape of the Internet", by launching a Web hosting facility which will bring telcos, ISPs (Internet service providers) and users under the same roof. Stanford's latest venture, Redbus Interhouse, aims to offer businesses flexible, powerful Web hosting from a multimillion pound site in London's Docklands. Stanford claims Redbus Interhouse will give users a fast, secure, managed connection to the Internet backbone. He added that telcos such as BT, Colt, Energis and NTL have already bought space at the facility, and said he is in discussions with many of the UK's major ISPs. Stanford said the move dramatically increases competition among ISPs and telcos, as users will be free to shop around for the best deal. "You'll be able to move ISP just by getting us to move a cable. And you can choose a telco even if it does not serve your local area," he said. The Docklands site boasts round-the-clock monitoring and the latest security, fire and air-conditioning systems. It has three separate power feeds, backed up by a dedicated UPS (uninterruptable power supply) and an on-site generator. The project, which is funded by Stanford's venture capital firm, Redbus Investments, is due to open for business in June. Stanford intends the facility to be "the first of many," with Amsterdam and Paris earmarked for future launches.
