SignalSoft launches location billing for mobiles

NEWS US-based firm, SignalSoft has launched a location-sensitive billing product for the GSM mobile phone market. The company claims its technology allows wireless telcos to vary call costs depending on whether the customer is at home, in their locality, or out on the road. It said operators could then offer tariffs that compete head-on with fixed lines on per-minute charges. Robert Blair, EMEA marketing director at SignalSoft, said: "Operators could link the company's PBX (private branch exchange) directly to their own network using a leased line, bypassing the fixed line operator entirely." Blair added: "This could even allow mobile operators to compete in the local loop for residential customers - and get them off their land lines."
