IBM aims for high-speed Net video

NEWS IBM is to set up a research project aiming to deliver Web-based video 1,000 times faster than current speeds. The research will be split between IBM's Schaumberg, Illinois branch and Northwestern University, and will involve fellow IT vendors, Ameritech and Cisco Systems. According to the companies, it will be the first global project for creating advanced Internet applications (AIA), and will enable collaboration among researchers around the world. IBM also announced the launch of a European AIA Centre in Holland, in partnership with the Telematics Institute and SURFnet. The centre is expected go live later this year.
