NEWS Infonet has reached a signed 'understanding' with AT&T-Unisource Communications Services (AUCS) to acquire the telecoms services company. The companies are currently withholding the financial arrangements of the sale, which will create one of the world's leading global networking services companies. A spokesman for AUCS denied reports in yesterday's media that Infonet was also planning to buy the whole of Unisource. AUCS is a joint venture between AT&T and Unisource - which is itself a joint venture between KPN Telecom, Telia and Swisscom. The sale has been prompted by AT&T's decision to abandon its World Partners arrangement and form a long-term partnership with BT in Europe. The spokesman stressed the complimentary nature of AUCS's and Infonet's business, saying the combined organisation could take advantage of an expanded network reach and client base. Together AUCS and Infonet would supply services to over half of the world's leading enterprises, he claimed.
