NEWS The IT services provider, Synstar, yesterday announced it has won a seven year business continuity contract from UK supermarket, Sainsbury's. The deal will involve providing a central support service for key operations such as customer services, reward card processing, logistics and distribution in case of disruption to business. Synstar was unable to comment on the value of the deal which will cover all of Sainsbury's 400 supermarkets, 300 Homebase stores and 13 Savacentres. The contract guarantees the recovery of all critical systems within a week of a disaster such as fire, flood or access denial. Synstar also plans to use its bespoke Repleo+ package to keep Sainsbury's technology constantly updated. In a written statement, Sainsbury's business continuity manager, Steve Mellish, said the contract underlined Sainsbury's commitment to its customers. "Business continuity is an issue which we just can't ignore" he said. Synstar was formed in 1997 from the computer services division of Granada.
