MCI WorldCom offers IP control

NEWS MCI WorldCom has launched a managed Internet Protocol (IP) over ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) service for European corporates. The service, called ATM Plus, is particularly aimed at companies thinking of combining voice and data traffic over IP. MCI WorldCom claims that by outsourcing their internal IP communications, companies can save up to 45 per cent on cost of ownership over two years. As part of the service, the US telecoms giant provides prioritisation levels on the network to enable corporates to distinguish between basic Internet use and mission critical usage. Clive Curtis, head of product marketing at MCI WorldCom, claims this will make companies more willing to adopt voice-over-IP.
