PR firms take to the Net

NEWS PR consultancies are wired, according to the latest annual PRCA (Press Relations Consultants Association) Benchmarking Survey, which recorded email and Internet penetration rates of 100 per cent within the industry. But although public relations firms have embraced new media - 88 per cent have a Web site (up from 56 per cent last year) and 79 per cent use ISDN (63 per cent last year) - voice mail remains shunned. Only a third of respondents use it and almost a half said they have no intention of introducing it. The increased use of the Internet and videoconferencing coincides with regional salaries coming into line with those in London, but London agencies are "significantly more profitable than regional". Harris Research conducted the survey.
