NEWS 3Com has spelled out its wireless networking roadmap. Among a range of announcements to be made at the Networld+Interop exhibition in Las Vegas today, is the 11Mbps 3ComAirConnect wireless LAN (local area network) for enterprise customers. Pricing is due in the autumn. Products for home users interested in personal area networks (PANs) are also in the pipeline for 2000, some of which may employ Bluetooth wireless technology. 3Com said the AirConnect wireless LAN is based on the IEEE 802.11 High Rate (HR) standard, delivering Ethernet level speeds. It supports the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and several security measures, so that it can be targeted at network managers. In a statement 3Com CEO, Eric Benhamou, called the emerging wireless connectivity market "absolutely strategic" to the networking company.
