EC eases telco procurement rules

NEWS The European Commission has waived EU rules on public procurement for telcos in several European countries, in response to increasing competition in telecoms markets. The Commission has released a list of countries, including Germany, France and the UK, in which it believes there is effective competition for services such as fixed and mobile lines. An EC statement said: "This effectively means that operators, including former national public monopolies, will no longer have to publish their tenders."
