BT and Nortel launch Spanish IP network

NEWS BT and Nortel announced the world's largest national IP (Internet protocol) telephony network in Spain today. BT's Spanish subsidiary will use Nortel products to set up 27 main nodes for business and residential customers within three years. Nortel's chief technology officer, Enterprise Solutions for EMEA, Kurt Bertone, said: "We're developing next-generation IP, based on intelligent routing switches. These have ten times the performance of the classic IP router, but come at just one tenth of the price." Bertone added that Nortel's new networks will include rule-based directory services and more reliable mobile connectivity.
