IP into ATM will go

NEWS Internet Protocol (IP) is set to become the dominant protocol in ATM enterprise and telco networks, according to an Ovum report. The analyst group said the emergence of multi-protocol label switching (MLPS) will enable the linking of IP and ATM layers, providing a bridge between the two networking technologies. The report, called 'IP, ATM and MPLS: Strategies for Broadband Networking', also claims that the rise of the Net and growth in IP traffic could have a radical effect on the traditional telecoms industry.
