NEWS Sony Music Entertainment has inked a deal with Red Dot Net to digitally distribute all Sony's back catalogue. The move will allow customers to go into a high-street shop, choose an album and have it delivered digitally via the Red Dot network to the store. The customer can then choose which format they prefer - CD, DVD or digital download to a storage device, and it is made up while they wait. The major advantage for any retailer is it can effectively sell the entire Sony range without needing miles of shelf space. Red Dot Net, owned by Digital On Demand, uses a dedicated ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) network based on OC-3 fibre. The network is linked up to each store by the highest possible speed, or if that is not possible the information in stored locally. For more information see http://www.reddotnet.com
