NEWS Internet guru, Ivan Pope, has been outlining plans for his role as chairman on the board of domain name company, Netnames. Pope has passed over his former role as CEO to Thomas Barrett so that he can focus on realigning his company towards digital identity services. These services include the management of individual or corporate identities using search engine technologies, meta-tags and email management. Pope believes that the business of domain name registration will eventually evolve towards these areas. Barrett, who joins from his role in US-based intellectual property rights company Thompson and Thompson, agreed that domain naming is about to change. "We think they're going to be obsolete in two years so we're looking to reinvent Netnames towards the area of digital identity ".
