NEWS Internet advertising specialist, DoubleClick, is to merge with direct marketer, Abacus, owner of the largest proprietary database of consumer information in the US. The combined company, valued at $1bn, will retain the DoubleClick name. DoubleClick said Abacus will boost its Internet marketing strategy by adding top-quality market information to DoubleClick's technology and media penetration. Meanwhile, DoubleClick announced an alliance with Beenz.com, the two month-old online currency company. Beenz claims to be able to turn Web surfers into e-shoppers by giving them electronic credits for activities performed online.
