Newspapers set to survive online revolution

NEWS Newspapers are likely to be the most stable of all the traditional media, as new technologies propel the industry into a period of volatility, according to research house, MIB Group. The report claims UK national newspapers will be able to create an unrivalled number of innovative online revenue streams, while strong branding will help prevent dramatic erosion of traditional income. However, MIB claims trade magazines and books are likely to be hit hardest, as more content moves online without generating additional income. The report added that improved broadcasting technology will make it cheaper for newcomers to target niche areas, ultimately posing a threat to traditional broadcasters' branding.
