Lucent buys INS in bid for next-generation networks

NEWS Lucent Technologies is set to buy International Network Services (INS) for $3.7bn (£2.3m), according to reports in US wires. The purchase of INS, which designs and implements corporate networks, is expected to strengthen Lucent's data networking capabilities. The news comes days after an announcement that rival, Cisco, had acquired a 20 per cent share of corporate consultants KPMG (http://www.silicon.com/a32003 ).
