NEWS AOL Europe has revealed that it will be targeting the 'new lad' market following today's launch of the free Net access service, Netscape Online. The ISP has forged content deals with various publishers and has signed a distribution agreement with a major high street retailer. Netscape Online will carry content from ft.com, Films Unlimited, sports.com, Q magazine, ZDNet, Games Domain and Dennis Publishing's Maxim The Netscape Online software will be distributed on CDs via Woolworth's 800 high-street shops from 1 September. The site at http://www.netscapeonline.co.uk will also provide services and information from partners such as MP3 specialist, Crunch, auction site QXL and Top Jobs on the Net. In a statement, Andreas Schmidt, president and CEO of AOL Europe, said he was "excited about the retail distribution agreement with Kingfisher (owners of the Woolworth chain) which allows us to take the service to the high street for the first time".
