Digital Island plans global streaming

By Joey Gardiner, 8 September 1999 16:09

NEWS Network services company Digital Island - which manages delivery of online content - has announced a technical alliance with Inktomi and RealNetworks to build a global Internet streaming network. The deal will see Digital Island integrate RealNetworks' RealSystemG2 media player and caching technologies from Inktomi into its own network. Digital Island will also use its TraceWare technology, which controls the distribution of content based on geography, enabling users to meet restrictive distribution agreements. Digital Island claims the network will allow companies to use audio and video material as part of their ecommerce activities with the confidence that it will be successfully delivered. The first stage of the service will be available in October.
