Gateway denies outage problems

NEWS Gateway has denied reports of multiple outages on its Internet dial-up services in the US. In response to a Silicon.com story published earlier this month (http://www.silicon.com/a32466 ), a company spokesman admitted some servers were down for a 2-day period in August. But he insisted it was for no more than a couple of hours at a time. "Our tracking data, which is completely comprehensive, shows that our up-time is running at 99.5 percent," he told Silicon.com. "This is well within acceptable industry parameters." Some customers had reported email outages of up to ten days after they signed up to Gateway's advertised free Internet service. This month, Gateway launched a special offer on its ISP that turns it back into a pay-per-month service. Company officials denied this was intended to replace March's free ISP offer.
