NEWS Tempo has announced it will temporarily suspend the issue of screaming.net CDs until it has eradicated technical problems from the service. Screaming.net has been beset with problems since its launch four months ago. Localtel, the telco behind the ISP service, filed several complaints with Oftel over defects in the transition process from BT phone lines, with many consumers being cut off for up to 33 days. It was also not being provided with adequate information to bill customers, leaving up to 30 per cent of them being billed by both operators. Oftel has now issued a provisional order to BT, and in an effort to regain initial momentum, screaming.net has upgraded the system to make it easier to access and quicker to use. Tempo says its decision not to issue screaming.net CD-ROMs throughout its stores as of 9 September, for an unstated period, is to help it get the service for existing customers running smoothly while it irons out remaining problems.
