NEWS Alcatel is aiming to strengthen its position in the ADSL (Assymetric Digital Subscriber Line) market, which it estimates will be worth $1bn by next year. With a predicted eight million ADSLs to be installed by 2001, the French telecom services and equipment provider is on target to ship one million deliveries this year alone. Alcatel already claims to hold 49 per cent of the market - ahead of Cisco's 13 per cent - and expects to retain its position as the market leader.
