Lucent rolls-out server interface technology

NEWS Lucent Technologies is set to launch an interface technology which it claims pushes packet data over optical networks even closer to the server. The company is planning to demonstrate its technology in the form of a new line of OptiStar adaptor cards at next week's Telecom 99 conference. According to a report on Techweb, Lucent will make the PCI server cards available commercially in early 2000. The product will be called the OptiStar OC48 and will be initially available for Windows NT-based servers. Lucent also plans to roll the product out on Windows 2000, Linux and commercial Unix platforms.
