NEWS Supply chain management company i2 technologies, made its entrance into the Web portal market today with the launch of tradematrix.com at its Planet99 conference in Las Vegas. The site is designed to challenge traditional portals that only offer news information and stock quotes, by providing a place to trade with suppliers and distributors. Making a jibe at SAP's effort - MySAP.com - in this market, Greg Brady, president of i2 Technologies said: "It's a common business-to-business portal - we'll be co-branded with all partners and customers. We're not so arrogant as to say we want to call it myi2.com." Many companies already have the infrastructure in place to trade online, claimed Brady, but they lack the knowledge to take advantage of it. He urged companies to beat their competitors by taking the business online. "Eat your own lunch before someone eats it for you," he warned. According to Brady, "This technology lets you consolidate your position in the market-place so you can connect to suppliers, buyers and sellers in one place. Companies currently waste six to nine months deciding to implement software products - they need more at their fingers tips so they can tell what all available products do, but view the information in one place." i2 Technologies also announced record quarterly results, posting revenues of $146.3m compared with $95.4m for the same period last year.
