NEWS Alcatel is to deliver and install 20,000 ADSL lines to Austria Telekom in a deal worth E9.4m (£6.09m). The first commercial deployment of ADSL in Austria is currently underway with installation continuing until the end of the year. Having already shipped more than 350,000 lines so far this year, the French communications company has also provided a similar service to BT, France Telecom and Telecom Italia. ADSL provides faster Internet access and multimedia services, helping users as the Internet community grows. Meanwhile, Alcatel will be selling IP routers from Juniper Networks in an 18-month deal worth $30m. The backbone routers are designed to address the needs of high growth Internet backbone providers.
