NEWS America Online (AOL) has teamed up with OpenTV to offer its online service over televisions. OpenTV is a provider of interactive software for digital TV, and already has customers that include BSkyB in the UK and TPS in France. The companies said the aim is to place AOL applications next to programmes, which is still far more popular than Internet services over digital TV. AOL has also made an investment in OpenTV. Its other investors are General Instrument, Liberty Digital, MIH Limited, News Corporation, Sun Microsystems and Time Warner.
