BT attacked again over Calls and Access product

NEWS Oftel has given BT another rap on the wrists for the shortcomings of its Calls and Access product, following complaints from consumers and service providers earlier this year. Oftel chief David Edmonds has issued a further Provisional Order setting out the actions the telco must take before a 1 December deadline. BT has been told to improve its systems for transferring customers to alternative service providers, pass on accurate customer records, and let the alternative operators pass any customers back to BT. Jeremy Stokes, managing director of Localtel, one of the largest service providers to complain about BT's service, said in a statement: "The changes introduced by BT since August have improved the situation but there are still areas which need to be addressed if we are to provide the service that our customers demand." Localtel's customers are also typically users of screaming.net, the free ISP owned by retailer Tempo.
