NEWS Nortel Networks is to expand its optical networking and components business, spending $400m and creating 5,000 jobs worldwide. Part of the expansion will see close to 2,000 new jobs in the UK at its Paignton, England and Monkstown, Northern Ireland campuses. Nortel said the optical networking market is set to grow strongly, and claims technology from the expansion will help it develop next-generation dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) 6.4Tbps systems.
