NEWS Britain still has a long way to go before businesses can benefit from a truly deregulated telecoms market, according to Mike Lawson, telecoms manager at Sun Life of Canada. In an exclusive video interview with Silicon.com, Lawson admitted his company has benefited since it switched telecoms provider from BT to Energis, but there is still plenty of room for improvement, he said. "I think there's still a lot more that needs to be done in terms of deregulation. BT still has a very large stranglehold on our market, certainly in terms of the local loop, and there's still got to be a lot of work done in that area." Lawson went on to explain his reasons for changing provider. "Some of the feedback that was coming back I was unhappy with - with BT and Cable & Wireless. Energis was relatively new at that point in time, and they were aligning themselves solely to the business market which I felt was an opportunity that we couldn't afford to miss," he said.
