NEWS The BBC has called for digital TV developers to learn from the open standards of the Internet. BBC director of policy, Patricia Hodgson, said television would not become a medium for ecommerce unless set-top box manufacturers worked together. There are currently three access methods for digital television and three different set-top boxes. Speaking at a media forum in London, Hodgson said suppliers should license their intellectual property to their competitors. She proposed that an industry regulator should oversee the process.
