Liikanen confident of dot-eu domain name approval

NEWS Erkki Liikanen, European Commissioner for Enterprise and IT, has announced that the Commission will back the introduction of a dot-eu top-level domain name. Liikanen said he hopes the domain name will assist companies seeking to establish an EU-wide Internet presence. "It has been the wish of the broad Internet community for some time, and the Commission has taken a positive position to that issue now," he commented. "So, if we get the support of the member countries as I expect, I hope that next year, European companies, institutions, well-informed newspapers and associations, will start to use dot-eu as their domain."
