NEWS Richard Branson's 'People's Lottery' consortium for the National Lottery has selected Energis as its telecoms provider for the bid for the next National Lottery licence. Energis was chosen ahead of BT to provide all of the voice and data networks for the consortium's bid. A source close to the consortium said Richard Branson picked Energis over BT because he considers it the "best of breed" in the provision of reliable, IP-based voice and data networks. The People's Lottery has to submit its bid for the 2001 licence by the 29 February 2000. The Lottery Commission will award the franchise in June 2000.
