Apple falls for Earthlink

NEWS Apple Computer has announced a $200m investment in Earthlink, and will appoint the ISP as exclusive provider of Net access for Macintosh computers. In September 1999, Earthlink announced a $3bn merger with ISP Mindspring Enterprises, a move that will make it the second largest Internet service provider after AOL. Apple's move to consolidate its online strategy had been widely predicted by industry watchers after Gateway agreed a similar deal with AOL last October. As part of the deal, Apple will take a seat on the Earthlink board.
