DoJ buries Network Solutions anti-trust case

By Sally Watson, 2 February 2000 17:10

NEWS The US Department of Justice (DoJ) brought down the curtain on its anti-trust investigation of domain registrar, Network Solutions; it has declined to provide an official reason. The inquiry began in June 1997 following accusations the company operated as a monopoly by controlling the Internet's primary domain name system. Network Solutions was awarded the contract to allocate domain names in 1993 by the US National Science Foundation, but recently has been forced to open up to competition.
