NEWS Alcatel has announced a glowing set of Q4 and full year 1999 results, despite a disastrous profits warning just 17 months ago. Operating income of the French telecoms manufacturer rose 28 per cent to E1.275bn in 1999, and the company has reported that all five of its primary business segments are now profitable. Internet and optics, and enterprise and consumer sectors saw the most dramatic rise - over a 20 per cent increase in top line growth. For the full year, net income amounted to E644m; a drop from 1998 profit of E2.34bn on sales of E21.26bn.
