NEWS IPC Electric has launched its lifestyle women's portal - BeMe.com - following several months of work with HP's e-services division. Kevin Kerrigan, IPC Electric's recently appointed MD, denied BeMe.com is playing catch-up with established brands aimed at women such as CharlotteStreet.com and handbag.com. The portal will be promoted in publications from parent company IPC Magazines, but IPC Electric said a major strength will be its relationship with HP. Ted Brooks, business manager, HP e-services group, said: "We're offering a cradle to grave process for organisations like IPC Electric." IPC Electric has paid HP $10m over three years, and undisclosed sums for individual 'e-projects'. The BeMe.com site will be mirrored around the world, hosted from the Bristol Internet Exchange (BINX), and use the infrastructure HP set up for the France 98 football World Cup site. BeMe.com is available in a cut down form over WAP-enabled mobile phones, and IPC Electric said it will encourage ecommerce and expand the service to interactive TV. Jolanta Pilecka, HP e-services marketing manager, hailed BeMe.com as a site built by women, for women.
