IMRG plans Rogue's Gallery to protect e-consumers

NEWS Industry kite-mark schemes do not offer sufficient protection to people shopping online, according to the head of a leading kite-mark scheme, Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG), which plans to redress the problem with a Rogue's Gallery. James Roper, CEO of IMRG, says putting a seal of approval on good practice is not enough to weed out unethical Web traders. "Codes of practice are not enough," he told Silicon.com this week. "You can bet your boots that within five years there will be a rogue's gallery of ecommerce scoundrels." IMRG has just hired a full-time employee to write the code for an online Rogue's Gallery, that will name and shame traders who do not follow industry best practice. Which? Web Trader offers a similar scheme, but its editor was not available for comment.
