BT eyes European mobile licences

NEWS BT will bid for licenses to operate third generation mobile phones across Europe, according to a German newspaper. Pat Gallagher, BT Europe president, told German paper, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, that the telco is looking to secure licences to operate third-generation networks in France, Germany and Spain. The networks - which will use the UMTS-based standard allowing greater voice capacity, high-speed data transfer, and even video - would allow an operator like BT to join its international operations and potentially make roaming easier.
