NEWS Dutch retailer Ahold is considering joining GlobalNetXchange, the global virtual marketplace announced by Oracle, Carrefour and Sears, to support its online supply chain management. Michael Meurs, chief financial officer at Ahold, admitted that the company was "seriously and enthusiastically studying it." In the past year, Ahold conducted $58.48m worth of Internet sales and is projecting that its 300,000 online customer base will rise to 1.15 million by the end of the year. The GlobalNetXchange site acts as a hub for Sears and Carrefour's 50,000 suppliers to buy, sell and auction products online. Oracle will provide the software to build the infrastructure and hold an equity stake in the company.
