Inprise subsidiary to support open source

NEWS Inprise has set up a subsidiary company, called InterBase, to provide support and services for its flagship product months before the launch of the latest version. InterBase 6, scheduled to be released in the summer, will be Inprise's first open source embedded relational database product. The source code will enable users to manage data on Linux, Solaris, Unix and Windows NT platforms. The company will be funded from the Inprise Venture Fund and venture capital partners. Ann Harrison will be president of InterBase, while Jim Starkey, the original architect of InterBase will act as the technology software architectural advisor to the company.
