By Sarah Left, 14 April 2000 18:00

NEWS Sohonet - a network service provider which links up media companies in London's Soho - has launched a wireless laser/infra-red ATM network. The technology from Cablefree Solutions will let Sohonet users transfer high-definition film, video and audio data via a network of laser heads set up 500 metres apart. The system transmits data from one laser to another in line-of-sight across rooftops at a rate of between 2 and 622 Mbps. Three Sohonet clients have signed up to use the system so far.
