Intel puts faith in Gigabit Ethernet over copper

By Dominic Maher, 17 April 2000 16:00

NEWS The adoption of Gigabit Ethernet over copper will drive the take-up of Gigabit technology over the next 12 months, according to Intel. Peter Horwat, LAN systems product marketing manger EMEA at Intel, said the adoption of Category 5 copper wiring will drive growth by up to 20 per cent in 2000, compared to just two per cent in 1998. Horwat added that even existing customers could take advantage with the release of Intel's Gigabit over copper Module. He said: "Users running a switched 10/100Mbps network can install the switch uplink to provide the automatic upgrade." The uplink module is part of a product release by Intel that includes four network switches forming part of its NetStructure family of products and services. All products will be available through the channel by the end of June.
