Alcatel signs UMTS pact with Fujitsu

NEWS French telecoms equipment maker, Alcatel has formed a joint venture with Fujitsu to develop and manufacture UMTS networking equipment. Alcatel will have a majority shareholding in the new company of 66 per cent.
A spokesman for Alcatel has promised products ready for deployment by the first half of next year. Fujitsu has a similar agreement with NTT DoCoMo in Japan. Alcatel is also a player in the GSM and ATM/IP markets.
